MY NAME IS DOUG SMITH AND I WISH TO STATE THAT MIKE POWER WAS NOT CHAIR OF ALCARAF, I WAS. I WAS ALSO THE CHAIR OF LEWISHAM AND DEPTFORD TRADES COUNCIL THAT SET UP ALCARAF ON THE INSRTUCTIONS OF THE T.U.C TO ORGANISE BROAD COMMUNITY OPOSITION TO THE ACTIVITIES OF THE NATIONAL FRONT.
MIKE WAS A CLOSE FRIEND AND A GOOD ORGANISER AND I ASKED HIM IF HE WOULD ACT AS CHIEF STEWARD AND HE DID A GOOD JOB. THE WORK OF CURTAILING THE ACTIONS OF THE FRONT DID NOT START WITH THE DEMO BUT WITH STREET MEETINGS, LEAFLETING AT RAILWAY STAITIONS AND MANY OTHER ACTIONS. I BROADLY SUPPORT MIKES SUMMARY OF EVENTS OF THE DAY AND VERY PROUD OF THE PART THAT ALCARAF PLAYED IN KEEPING THE LIKES OF THE FRONT OUT OF LEWISHAM.
